Observations 3
This probably sounds like a she said he said type of thing but..
USA TODAY posted on 4/23/2003 excerpts from an interview with Senator Santorum (R-Pa.) by the Associated Press on April 7th. .
"if the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything."1
The Supreme Court of The United States ultimately ruled that the Texas law prohibiting sexual acts between same sex couples was unconstitutional2. This is a good decision by the Supreme Court. It is not within the purview of government to decide what is morally right or wrong. It is the responsibility of the religious leaders in a community to guide their followers in what is morally right or wrong.
A law should only be enacted if an action causes harm, or creates unusual hazards for, another individual. Using that as the test, government should only be involved if there is proof that an action will lead to the victimization of an individual. A large percentage of the religious laws of behavior can be traced to the stabilization of the family and community. An action that might destabilize a family and might cause indirect harm, is purely a moral consideration.
If someone molests a child, then they should be prosecuted. If someone molests a cucumber, it is entirely between them and their confessor.
